A Tournament of Valour

A Tournament of Valour begins on Sat Sep 30 01:00:00 2023, and ends on Sat Sep 30 04:00:00 2023.

Synopsis:

The banners flutter in the breeze high over the city of Valour. Trumpets
sound from the ramparts. It is time for a grand tournament! All are
welcome to the city under a code of peace as we celebrate the heroes of
today and those who have come before us.

There shall be 3 events in all:
- A jousting tournament - Climb aboard a steed and charge towards glory!
- A dueling tournament - Pair off and battle for supremacy of arms!
- A ball - Come in your finest garbs to celebrate with wine and whimsy!

No killing shall be permitted throughout the tournament events. These
battles are to the stun or the last one still on their horse. The Heralds
shall also be providing special prizes for the winners of these events. So
come one, come all, to experience the tournament of the season!

hey what? a jousting tournament? how is that even possible..

Something tells me only the Knights themselves have a fighting chance at winning this... "Last one still on their steed" rules out anyone but them or potentially a dark-knight (if they are even allowed to participate, though I feel they might have an unfair advantage) because nobody else can stay on their steed consistently (if at all) during combat.

Is someone going to explain how jousting is supposed to work?

You poke someone off their horse with a pike.

Or bash them off if you're a warrior, or a dark-knight (assuming they're allowed to compete).

Have y'all attended any other Avenar events? How is any of it possible? I don't know what jousting will be but I've got money down that it'll be something off book.

Fear not! Jousting will be a special game just for the Tournament that anyone of any level can participate in. Don't worry about your horse riding skills. If you want to compete, simply show up and the rules will be explained then. It's meant to be straightforward and fun.

Thanks everyone for participating! We had great attendance at last night's event and there are logs up documenting what went down for those interested. It was great to see so much interest and engagement from the players. This is encouraging for the planning of future events.

Well done, Avenar, you've absolutely knocked it out of the park on this one. you created a genius jousting minigame with entirely built in mobprogs, promoted it for attendance, ran an exciting event, and documented it with three banger logs so those who couldn't make it can weep after they see they were missing. Incredible!

It was fantastic to see some new names in the mix, but it was also great to see that the playerbase can still be decent (14 players logged in) and show the RP'ing talent here WITHOUT the bunch of core regulars in attendance, and that means there is potential for the next event to be even bigger.

I would like to echo the same thanks Avenar gave for everyone's interest and participation. But lets also just say it - we all want to see what Avenar is doing. if you're a player of AR of any period, from 1998 to 2023, and you still haven't properly experienced one of the Avenar events, then you missed out, and you KNOW you shouldn't be missing it!

I thought the 'crowd signs' were a perfect compliment to a great event.
