expectations

I love AR. I love the highs, I even love the lows. We have all had moments where we were like WTH!? Sometimes its unexpected mob behavior, sometimes its unexpected results of a battle, or a spell, or even movement attempt. Curious as to the biggest WTH moment you had in AR.

Imma set a couple of mine

Being assassinated. Was fairly fresh to the game, never played a ninja (yes, that old, not shadow) straight chilling at South Square. soandso ASSASSINATES you. (I think it was Kepltomeron or some such) And boom, I am at the temple. WTH!

Every time I catch a headsock from a thief, and they don't think that is cause to want to kill them. WTH!

Death of a friendly. Seen an illusionist attempt to buff someone in North Square. That person was in a large group of people also in North Square. The buff was considered offensive, because the illusionist was not in the party yet, and BOOM SPLAT, corpse of illusionist. WTH!

Valor recall trap. I like to play necros, so I often run afoul of the Knights. First time I was not doing great and had to recall, I found myself in some Cathedral? WTH!

Missing skills. Rolled a ranger for the first time in a VERY long time, and was flabbergasted to not see MIND LINK. WTH! Also, bring this back please!

Monk beads strangle. First time I was beating a monk, and then combat stopped, and I went to loot and realized combat stopped due to my sleep, not his/her death. Soandso wraps prayer beads around your neck and you go to sleep!? WTH! Also, bring this back please!

I am sure I am missing many, been playing so long, there MUST have been a LOT more, but those are some that stick out in my memory. What are some of yours?

I had a halfling warrior warlord years ago that had this nemesis that was a DK in Legion. I was finally going to beat this guy, got him to awful and had a trip entered in- and then boom, storm reset, combat stops and he gets away.... Ended up condeathing that character (to the same dude) it was a blast, right around the time of the combat module change.

Got a vamp, got him to 50 and was doing abysmal in PK. Fighting Dioraem along the eastern road and it was close... See the message pop up about death and start going like I'm heading to my corpse and realize I was still alive, I had finally killed someone (it didn't get better from there, that was my only kill).

Playing my first zerker and got the timing for rage + tick + berserk for huge healing during a fight, killing the dude and then I got stunned due to rage ending. It was funny, I could see the hampster running on its wheels as I see the guy come into the room, get all corpse, wear all, sleep, wake, leave the room to unghost, come back and kills me lol.

My first full loot. It was my first character. And elf paladin or werebeast ranger, it's so long ago I can't remember which. I was requesting stuff from the crusader in emerald when someone pops out of nowhere(I didn't have detects up) and sleeps me. Now I have request lag so I get to watch him fully spell me up and kill me without any ability to flee or anything. Amd then he sacs all my items and takes my soul, so I come back to nothing, requested item sacced too. I remember my confusion and no idea what happened, and I remember it happened several times.

My biggest WTF moment was when I transferred two players for multi-charactering, and it turned out to be a husband/wife duo that were going through a divorce and apparently unaware they were both mudding. They were still living together. A huge fight erupted in the trouble room followed by silence. I don't think there is any other time in history I have ever seen such intensity of anger expressed in text like that. Caps everything.

Seeing a fire giant berserker in Legion handle a 1v3 gank by the Knights (I was one of them)... I was on Telnet at the time and at one point the screen suddenly flashed as a bunch of text flooded my screen. I'm pretty sure one of my allies died instantly. The other wanted to stick with the plan of taming him (he was a ranger) and as I was also a berserker and very badly wounded I ran away since I knew from experience that raging against this guy (whether automatically or otherwise) was a death sentence. The Legion guy finishes off my second ally, and it was like it was an afterthought for him to rush after me as I ran to the gate north of Darkhaven and finish me off as i was opening the gate.

Winning an arena fight when I was spent on mana as a healer because my opponent yielded just as I had run out.

As a newbie many years ago, not realizing that the catwalk led to the Justice cabal and then dying almost instantly while exploring (and then losing all my stuff - at that point I simply made a new character)

Saying to Sevokan that she would make a fine zombie on one of my necromancers only for her to talk back to me as I start walking away.

Managing to gate into a place with no direct connections to the outside world (technically, I was in an area where I could seen and interacted with, but the only way anybody else would've possibly gotten me out of there is by summoning me).

Getting blackjacked by Vhrael at random (though with how I was acting I kind of deserved it in retrospect).

Only realizing once it was pointed out to me that using locate object on one character and collecting items on another is against the rules (lost a character as a result, standard punishment).

Eating an acid blast from Resatimm which instantly killed me because he logged on visibly and I thought he was behind some of the pranks I was witnessing and I had started actively antagonizing him (he was very nice about it once he realized there were hurt feelings involved).

Having Dhua come up to me in Valour, visibly pissed off, and yet she went on a verbal tirade rather than actually attacking me (I was playing a lawful good character at the time and apparently the fact that I was lawful was enough reason for her to not touch me).

Managing to steal the Eviscerator from out under the very noses of two Legion members who didn't even see it on Grazz't initially.

Noticing an illithid log on within PK range as a lawful necromancer in their guild, then killing them when they foolishly attempted to use cone of force in front of Tyr the Warden and my entire group (golems, zombie of Taipdel, two skeletal warriors, pet, constable, possibly mercenary as well).

Got summoned and one rounded by a huge evil winter group because I was lrepeatedly summoning one of them to fight.

Walking in on Polik emoting freaky stuff at the beautiful garden then just walking away.

Getting strangled and healed up by energy scrolls for Nadoshi to assassinate me.

Getting Knighted by Soluminus because I steamrolled his dark knight with my elf paladin back when they had dodge and trance.

keira vs jorunn 30+ minute duel in the arena where I lost.

Niusan randomly appearing in underworld to deliberately chown an item I was after from one of the generals.

there was a 2 on 1 against Azazhog and I remember we got punished for ganking a guy who had been destroying all of the evils

and this.....

i had a flipping dk and i was summoned for multi'ing, and i spent days training that guy, and I never understood why I was transferred to the oh shit room. Kjeldoran was his name. I didn't multi or cheat but I was just left in the oh shit room for like a week it feels like. never understood that
