General

*Valindra's hand has grown back.
*The devote ability now resets at noon each day instead of every 24 ticks
* the original "m1coftw" forum account has been unbanned. -- m1co's Strythmas wish
* If a group leader dismounts the rest of the group will also autodismount.

Imm promotions
- Avenar to level 56 (for many clearly obvious reasons to us all, well done Avenar and thank you)
- Phostan to 55 for proving Keepers work and mentoring Bonfo into an elite player

Prestige Ranks

Prestige was introduced with lairs. This is now expanded to be an addition to the experience system to help character longevity. Once the player character reaches level 50, which is and always will be the pinnacle, the character can begin over in "levelling" prestige, starting from level 1 and gaining experience just like a human warrior. (As a perk for compounded high exp combos, the extra exp they have to earn on the way to level 50 is allowed to immediately overflow into their prestige levels on hitting level 50). There are 150 levels of prestige to gain, each of them earning a prestige point for a total of 150 points available.

Some examples of the things that can be picked up via prestige points are:

*relics
*a way to restore a lost constitution point
*reputation increases
* a way to increase the chance of getting "beautiful" or "gilded" versions of the forged armors at Grimforge - ivindel's wish
* chance of landing big discounts at shops

You will find the whole list in "help prestige". Please note - these levels increase in experience costs as all levelling does, so spend early points carefully, as the amount to level will eventually get very long, and finishing is perhaps an unrealistic goal for most.

Plots

A new plots system has been added to support storyline and roleplay.

'PLOTS'
Syntax: plot list
plot view <#>

Plots on Abandoned Realms represent the ongoing storylines of Serin. Unlike
programmed quests, plots are typically freeform and evolve primarily through
the roleplay of characters. Typing PLOT LIST shows the plots your character
is currently a part of. There are two types of plots: world plots and
character plots. World plots are available to all players and are the
well-known events currently taking place and shaping the realm. Character
plots are smaller in scale and typically involve only one or a few
characters. They might arise from something in a character's background, or
a secret that the character uncovers in their travels.

Plots are run by Immortals behind the scenes but it is the actions of
players that ultimately progress them. Plots might have scheduled Events
that are tied to them, but some may progress through notes or other forms of
roleplay. When a plot progresses, all characters who are part of the plot
will receive a notification. If that character is offline at the time, they
will receive the notification when they login next.

IMPORTANT: It's vital that you as a player keep the knowledge of a specific
character limited to that character! If your other characters are not
included on a character plot, you should assume they have no knowledge of
it. We want to foster intrigue and epic reveals through plots and we rely
on excellent IC and OOC boundaries to do so. So do your part to keep the
mystique alive and well.

Cosmology

An updated cosmology has been introduced. The realms are now made up of five Prime Planes and numerous demiplanes which are typically connected to or associated with one of the Primes.

The Prime Planes

Serin - The realm of mortals
Acadia - The realm of the fey
Abyss - The realm of demons
Void - The realm of nothingness
Nether - The realm of lost creations

Acadia
|
The Void -- Serin -- The Nether
|
The Abyss

The Demiplanes

Limbo - Forged by the earliest Immortals as a home to watch over the other planes.
Ethereal Plane - A magical plane that overlaps Serin, but also intersects with the other Primes in strange and unpredictable ways.
Astral Plane - A demiplane of Serin known as the Plane of Dreams. It allows thoughts (and sometimes entities) to travel great distances with ease.
Plane of Shadow - Also overlapping Serin, but void of color and full of darkness.
Blood Realm - A demiplane of Serin, little is known about this realm except that it interacts with life forces as they arrive and depart Serin.
Winter - A frozen demiplane of the Abyss, linked to Serin.
Underworld - A demiplane of the Abyss linked to Serin, hosting cursed and banished souls.

Areas

New end-game mini area: Swirling Nether. Make your way through the Galaxy area's black hole to enter the Swirling Nether. This is a place where experiments of the ancient gods have warped reality and time. Explore this mysterious realm at your peril!
New end-game area: Taekir

'TAEKIR'

In the distant past, the city of Taekir and its shadow dragons were
corrupted by the Immortal, Darkhan, and manipulated into joining his war
against the rest of Serin. After Darkhan's defeat, a cataclysmic cosmic
event pulled the entire city into the Void where it was lost from reality
and frozen in time. Millennia passed, until one day the cosmos shifted
again and Taekir reappeared. The city is a hostile, unforgiving place of
fanatical soldiers, twisting dark alleyways, and ancient dragon worship.
Only the strongest adventurers dare enter its gates.

Note that Taekir opens tomorrow (Friday pacific)

Items

*Warlord medals from Overlords are now capped at lifetime level*level. so for example, at level 30, once you reached 900 medals you cannot accumulate any further medals from overlords. The other methods (duels, quests, juggernaut task etc) are still available. This is not intended to punish anybody, just limits the amount of "meh" medals one can acquire. Also in this change - you can now gain medals from overlords at low ranks, up to max of 100 until level 11.
* this patch now allows Gasteride's non-rare items to be engraved to sets - like ozaru's wish

Mobs

* New gameplay type: Controllable Mobs. Special events now have the option to allow players to take control of powerful mobs with unique combat abilities.
* The mercenary guildhall's hired minstrel can now heal the team.
* Can now barter with priests to acquire their healing. They will accept only a rare item for this privilige. - blackwidow's wish
* added a new "leatherworking kit" sold at Anga the letherworker. This allows armwear and legwear to be tempered to add more AC and an attribute. You will need to get epic skins from certain tough mobs by skinning them to choose which attribute that will be. - Vertas's request
* A giant spider evil mount is now rewarded for killing Arachnos - Rothak's wish

Races

* jotun dex is now reduced to 16 and con is reduced to 21
* storm and stone giants con are both increased to 23
* added duergar dark-knights - n.b. all of the above are Phostan wishes
* added duergar shadows. they get a +3 level bonus to the shurikens they create via edge crafting
* added void-elf shadow - thorgoth wish
* fell dk/abyssal invoker have been added as custom race picks for jotun and drow - m1co wish
* jagar patterns are in the new perception check which you will see explained more later.

Illithid

* added an extract command. this removes a brain from a severed head or incapacitated npc. eat it for mana - irishMidnight wish

Classes

General

* fencing - now works with whips - lionSpyre wish
* Perception - affects thief, shadow primarily, has impact for all classes with similar interactions. It is divided into visual and aural, I did not bother with smells (yet). If you want it, put it in your prompt with %E

'PERCEPTION'

The perception attribute defines a character's ability to see or hear an action
taking place (and react). Skilled thieves may rob people of their trousers without
them noticing they were even removed - requiring a dark room and nimble fingers.

The target's perception is important in key rogue abilities, and circumvention
presents a puzzle to be solved. No factor is the be-all and end-all, and luck
plays a key part, but some circumstances can cause incredible distraction for
your target. Here, some tips are offered to both help and hinder perception.

General tips
+ the SNEAK ability aids greatly in evading detection under any circumstance
+ mastery of the skill being attempted
- crowded rooms interfere with vision and sound
- a bard performing the "four seasons" song is VERY distracting (vision AND sound)
+ level advantage, as always, plays a key role
+ vampires have the best perception

Vision
+ elven races are eagle-eyed, and more likely to notice anything visual
+ spice provide a similar visual bonus to being an elf (does not enhance elves)
+ the sixth sense spell of psionicists, or detect hidden, or keen sight
+ having the monk "sense motion" skill active
- being in a dark room (a light source can fix this)
- being blind

Hearing
+ affected by wolf totem (enhances hearing)
- being deaf

TLDR: You have a stealthy stat of 1-20 (base value + bonuses). They have a similar defensive stat of 1-20. They roll for defense and if your stat is better than their roll they lose and you them perform whatever the action is that you were doing, stealthily.
(This is still an evolving work to be transparent, it has been running quietly in the background for almost a year to get us this far!)

New skill: Spellbinding. Learned by Invokers, Illusionists, Necromancers and devil spec Dark-Knights.

'SPELLBINDING'
Syntax: cast spellbinding <spell> <mana amount>

Certain classes learn the spellbinding ability. Those who learn it may purchase
a spellbinding wand or stave from Ming at the Magewares store in Timaran, and
then use it to store magic to use later. The wand or stave may be wielded as
a weapon and used via zap or brandish. Once a spell has been stored in the
wand, the mage's melee attacks will allow them to train the spell that way
to gain proficiency.

Certain gems found around the realms may be slotted into the spellbind wands
and staves to increase the spell levels of targetted spells.

Note: A spellbind wand is meant exclusively for one's own use, not given away.
Measures are in place to prevent these devices from being traded and the penalty
for misuse is death. If you find a way around it, let us know. Do not
"abuse until fixed".

Warrior

* gained level 40 momentum ability

'MOMENTUM'
Syntax: automatic

Each successful melee attack or successful "combat style"-specific skills
makes the warrior gains combat momentum for a number of rounds of combat.
Attacks which are boosted by concentrate cause an additional gain of
momentum, while missed attacks cause momentum loss. The most gain or loss
of combat momentum will come from success or failure of combat style skills.
Ripostes do not alter the momentum in any way, and momentum gains are more
limited in reflex mode.

Effects of momentum are:
* improved fighting style (momentum advantage erases combat disadvantage)
* faster recovery time for performing combat style skills
* disarm attempts have more force behind them

Changing combat styles resets momentum, so the warrior must think about
whether it is better to shift gears for a new approach or stick with their
chosen tactic and try for a landslide victory following early success. Note
that forceful collisions (such as bash) will also remove momentum, causing
the warrior to succumb to any combat disadvantage.

Thief

* see perception notes
* disguise has been expanded with lots more disguises available. you will need to consider your environment and match the disguises for the best bonus. bad disguises just do nothing, otherwise, you have a really high perception bonus.
* see below for some sort of alacrity nerf (a buff to another class actually)

Bard

The changes here are to affirm bards have been pegged for a jack-of-all-trades role, meaning not too strong (or weak) in any given area, also adding some spying traits to their abilities to emphasize those rogue roots.

* trance has been made redundant by concord hymn, so it has been traded to instead give them sneak. Any prior proficiency in trance has been transferred to sneak.
* also gained the disguise and eavesdrop skills.
* concord hymn now grants hp regen per tick instead of save mental
* healing of laughter is redone for support bards. it now heals the group (but not the bard), can now shake off the effects of hysteria, roar, and the new vampire screech. the bard will lose health from healing in this way, but can regain it again by dealing damage (unless they actually get hit, in which case the affect supporting this is lost). its mana cost was reduced from 40 to 25 and its lag from 2 rounds to 1 round.
* new crossfade ability: allows easy switch between concord and battle hymns and allows bards to gain temporary max mana if others hear their songs
* new crescendo ability: improves song levels temporarily and interacts in a special way with cross fade

Healer

* this class can now see if other players are wounded in the room visually (i.e. type LOOK and you will see yellow names or red names for hurt players). supercedes the target command
* new spell. angelic step: allows the healer to maneuvre themselves and groupmates behind the group tank. com 'angelic step' <tank name> n.b. ALL groupmates end up behind the chosen tank so be careful!

Shaman

* spell "demonic push" is the analog of angelic step for evil groups
* two new mask affects - one mask Adds a chance of a cause critical spell healing the wearer, another mask Adds a chance of a blindness spell blowing burning ash into the victim's face. I'll let you find them..

Invoker

*Restored the ability for invokers of all specializations to slow themselves via casting mystic tendrils on mana shield. - mogu wish
* add interesting effects to their enchant spells when they glow brilliantly. saves on armor and hp on weapons - valindra wish

Monk

* style change has a better chance of getting out of hobble
* able to reset a tattoo for a fee at the guildmaster - Merlandox wish

Paladin

A couple tweaks to promote engagement over spam.

* Spell lethality adjustments (i.e. the tapering of wrath spell on low hp targets) were reworked to taper properly so that hitting someone at 41% hp with heavenly wrath doesnt deal full damage, instead the damage will calculate in a way that every percent of hp below 40% is accounted correctly for damage reduction.
* Paladins can get a bigger divine might damage bonus if they have combat advantage (more damage than before this patch), a smaller bonus if they do not (less damage than before)

Necromancer

* new spell "phantom pain". This summons a phantom into the area that appears to be suffering, but what it is actually doing is siphoning holy energy. if the paladin attempts to heal themselves within a short distance of the phantom, it will be diminished in the same way as cure continual enhances a heal. if the paladin tries to heal the phantom it will spring a nasty trap on them.
* turn undead's save spell can now happen again every time a mob is hit. this means that the necromancer can use quantity to help shield their army. non-strength damned zombies get hit first, followed by everything else.
* entomb : this can now be set to trigger eruption so that a player entering the room finds themself suddenly attacked by the entombed zombie
* entombed zombies are now persistent. they remain in the realms and can be killed while the necro is logged out, rejoin the necromancers party on login (please report any bugs e.g. duplicating zombies)
* new spell 'haunt' - a way to fake an appearance for jump scares like in horror movies. The room itself will be haunted and a player that is haunted periodically haunts their current room.

Vampire

* shapeshifts now have a chance to remove hobble, similar as to the monk style switches doing that
* haunt spell (detailed above)
* new skill 'screech' (works like berserker roar. hastes you vs your target if you successfully make your target terrorised. It does not have very good chances of working without haunt. note that this can be cured with laughter.

Psionicist

* all tattoos are now "psi enhance" items, as long as they are not covered up
* ego whip now strips and locks out alacrity (the thief ability). a few other similar confidence-wrecking skills also do this to alacrity.

Ranger

* all barkskin types now reduce cold damage. this effect is doubled for the cold resistant barkskin type. This is to close a competitive gap with dark-knights.
* falcons now convey a limited detect invis. limits are. must type "LOOK" manually, or "SCOUT" (scan can autoreplace with scout). falcon must be in same room. items must be worn to be seen by the falcon.

Cabals
* restorer wands return to cabal shops (strictly a trial basis) - dogran wish

Thank you for all of the hard work you and the Imm staff put into the update. The only thing that was a little "odd" was fencing with a whip. I know there was a lot of effort put into adding realism to the weights of weapons and I just am trying to picture how a whip is going to riposte, remise, beat or parry.

Amazing. This feels more like an expansion than a patch. So much to unpack. Thank you for all the thought, time, and effort put into this.

I don't suppose there will be any train "refunds" for existing Jotuns, since the stats change from Dex 18 to 16, Con 22 to 21?

resonance (5 points) recoup an extra practice session from a mastered skill. One session must stay intact.
acclaim (10 points) receive +1000 bonus to reputation of your choosing.
fortune (15 points) a chance of a monumental discount (buy again up to 3 times, current chance is 0 percent).

Just clarifying:

1. what what does "one session must stay intact" mean?
2. are acclaim and fortune permanent boosts? or are they consumable uses that will be exhausted when they proc?

Incredible job by all involved in this - I know that a huge amount of work goes into these updates from the planning, to implementation and testing.

Thanks to Dav and the team for continuing to evolve this game and making it the best MUD in the world.

Definitely excited to try this stuff out. Thanks for all the hard work and I hope you don't mind a few follow-up questions.
Does spellbinding consume the gem when you insert it similar to forging so rare gems would repop?
When you say screech can be cured by laughter does that mean only the bard healing laughter can cure it or just emote laugh can?
When you say Gasteride's non-rare items can be engraved do you mean all non-rares in the area?
Thanks again

@krystal - This means you can only refund a practice from a mastered skill IF you put more than 1 practice into it to begin with. You can't 1 practice a skill, master it, then refund that 1 practice.

+1000 rep is permanent

I'm not 100% on the discount chance being permanent. Dav will need to clarify if this is perm or consumable.

@von - The gems are consumed via the slot command, yes.

Also Dav questions on the laughter breaking screech and Gasteride items.

fencing with whip
- it was wished, and then ratified by someone else based on castlevania precedent, seemed good enough for me. I guess you "flick" a whip? i dont have that strong feelings about it but if it an immersion break we can walk it back and do something else..

train "refunds" for existing Jotuns
- they have bonus hp from levelling with higher con than other jotuns, so this isnt needed. +1 con is better than 3 trains. this is better left alone.

what does "one session must stay intact" mean?
- it means you can only extract a prac if you 2 or 3-pracced. the first practice spent in a skill must stay in it

are acclaim and fortune permanent boosts? or are they consumable uses that will be exhausted when they proc?
- permanent, flat bonuses.

Does spellbinding consume the gem when you insert it similar to forging so rare gems would repop?
- yes

When you say screech can be cured by laughter does that mean only the bard healing laughter can cure it or just emote laugh can?
- bard song. that bard song cures hysteria, and its a similar effect hence why i picked it

When you say Gasteride's non-rare items can be engraved do you mean all non-rares in the area?
- just the segmented steel items

Since it's related to my wish, I was just wondering if the "tempering" prestige (that adds a very slightly better chance of forging gilded armor) is also a permanent effect?

Not that it matters, but that was never my wish. My wish was around allowing gambled items to be engraved into sets. I don't know where you got gasteride armor from.

ozaru we have it on Keeper gambles already and everybody can buy them so it wouldnt be adding much benefit. You are better off being able to engrave good non-rares that you dont need to gamble. At least that was my thinking on it.

Do you mean everyone can buy keeper gambles? If so then there is a bug or I'm missing something. Definitely can't buy them. I can see the list of items and that they cost 15k each, but I can't buy anything.

It might be for Strife but its there in some form and anyway I don't want to make all the other eq in the game worthless just because smuggler engraved is BiS, it needs to be a balance-focued wishlist not a make non-rare eq too OP to have anything left to do wishlist. I mean just think through it just five minutes and you'll definitely start to wonder if this is a good idea.

Its a hard cap on medals per level from overlords not a hard cap on all medals. Thrad the trainer and the juggernaut both offer tasks that continue to give medals, and also interact with honing on task turn-ins.

How does that tempering kit at Anga work? Reading the helpful it shows as skin corpse, then temper corpse with the kit. If you skin it, there is no corpse so I'm assuming you're tempering the skin itself and not the corpse? Also, is there a syntax or something that shows which monsters you can temper? Like using lore on the monster?

Can I suggest to update the helpfiles for races storm giant, stone giant and jotun? It can be quite misleading to new and/or returning players to see the stats on the helpfile not in line with the ingame stats. Thanks.

You have exceeded the maximum lifetime medals from overlords (625) for this rank.

So I am a rank 25 and having used 300 medals already just to master 3 defenses (parry, shield block and dodge). I am just wondering with the new changes, how am i going to master all my skills if i want to join Warlords etc. i believe this change is too drastic a change and i would rather favor the old system. so basically the change now gives a huge advantage to players who have already mastered all their skills/spells and taxes new characters so badly.
sorry but i am just feeling really down from this change alone.

I think this is an older issue but the Jotun webpage states obsidian is a "vulnerability" whereas the in-game helpfile states obsidian is a Jotun "weakness" which is a big difference. I believe the in-game helpfile is correct in that it's only a "weakness", not a "vuln".

icarium : you have alternatives. you can get medals from thrad quests, juggernaut tasks, thrad tasks, and duelling, all are perfectly attainable at level 25 and beyond. there are also alternatives in this game to scarecrows, as well as you could trade and/or share scarecrow with other players. This cap is for the ones "from overlords" which were heavily scripted and it makes no sense to hand out infinite medals for heavily scripted actions. If I could make it diminish each overlord kill without taking up loads of disk space I'd rather do it, but a level cap works as a band-aid solution til we figure that one out.

The Juggernaut tasks and thrad tasks provide more than enough. Available at level 25. Might be more accessible to just scale with level period starting from 1.

Well I think more importantly is I don't think anyone's stopping someone joining Warlord over a lack of mastered skills. If I have to choose between the guy who has 100% bash and the guy who has read through https://abandonedrealms.com/help/playerkilling/ and fights often enough to remember sanc, vuln weapon etc, I'll prefer the guy who reads the mechanics and is trying to master them. Blademaster if you demonstrate expertise. etc. Thats like getting a black belt in Karate. This 100% all skills thing is not even remotely a requirement. You cannot gain ranks in warlord without winning duels, and conversely if you can win them then it doesnt matter what % your dirt kick is at.

I was thinking there is a group of people who likes to train skills. They get the gratification of getting better at <skill>. Just like there are people who likes to PK, people who likes to RP, people who likes writing poetry etc. I don't see why deny the realms from training.

That said, the quests aren't all that difficult to do. So it's just a different form of farming for medals.

Once again, I didnt deny anyone's training. I denied scripters from scripting 1000's of medals. The currency has more uses than just training. If you wanna gaslight everybody this is about stopping newbies from training go right ahead and try, but I don't think anyone else is buying it. Merlandox, you always back up your OOC buddies no matter how foolish their comments, but the medals are worthless if they did nothing to earn them, the skill points are worthless if they did nothing to earn them, the forged gear is both the best and worthless if they did nothing to ern them, and what does that adds up to? A whole lot of shit being worthless . So I'm sorry to every newbie who can't kill ofcol guards with hand to hand until they get 100 fucking medals, but in the bigger picture you guys are the ones who fucked it up not me. Yes you. You did that. All I do is run behind you fixing all your gold, medal, no-exit, whatever exploits. Don't worry, you'll think of some others. Always do. We should probably start looking into how you can manage to support having rares on ten level 50s and what does killing the darkenbeast have to do with that, huh?

Hi Dav, first and foremost, please allow me to apologize for the rest. Our intention was not to accuse you of intentionally making life difficult for anyone and again im sorry if they came across that way and we will be sure to word our comments properly in the future.

I would, however, like to take the chance to address a few points that you have brought up in your response:

1. training - i definitely agree there are still alternatives (i.e. the questing from Thrad etc.); we have since tried it out and there are few things that feels bad (for eg. its quite difficult for classes like necros and illus to kill a level 50+ mob with with hand to hand.).

Is this intended? If so, it feels like the only answer would be for many to just "park" their characters at a lower level to try and save up medals because doing these tasks at level 50 would prove pretty difficult.

2. scripting - i appreciate the disdain for the scripting and i can understand why, but i would also like to clarify something here. What exactly is the stand on scripting? I believe we have had this conversation before and our landing is that if we are physically at the screen and just having the mud client run repetitive actions for us, that is acceptable.

If so, i just like to point out, (i) not all of us use scripts. Some of us actually do physically play the game and clear golems/farm stuff manually; and (ii) since we have came back, every single one of us when we run scripts to either train/do some simple farming, we are physically at the screen except for some small windows where we run off to get water or pick up food deliveries; and (iii) yes, although we play an astronomical amount of hours (just this month alone, where hours are ballooned coz of the new patch, our hours collectively account for more than 15% of the entire hours played), we are physically present when we play the game because we have taken your feedback to heart and have made efforts to conform to it.

Which brings me to my next few points.

3. time being worthless - i disagree with your statement that we did nothing to earn them. If nothing else, we put time and effort into the farming these things, because we are still physically always present at the computer.

If just because i am not physically typing out commands and having a mud client do them to me, my time as a player is worth less to you than the next, then please make it clear to us and we will react accordingly.

So i dont think you made a fair statement by saying whatever it is that we achieved with our characters (ie. medals, skill points, and forged gear) is worthless.

4. exploits - This is also a pretty unfair statement. Like i pointed out, we collectively as a group, are spending the most amount of time playing your game (if we take last months hours, im pretty sure just us alone account for something like 20% to 30% of the games total played hours). Most of the time though, this entails just us sitting around doing nothing, so we explore and here and there we find things.

So my question is this: If i spend the time, effort and thoughts to find something (i.e. valour apples being 0 weight, or valour zombies hitting exceptionally hard, or cylis no-exit shennanigans), should i then assume that every single thing that i find that is slightly off whack is a bug and then report it? because i assure you, given the amount of hours we spend on this game, we have found and will continue to find more stuff; So lets just take this chance to set expectations right here so we can avoid, as much as possible, more of this unpleasantness happening.

Finally, i dont think we say it enough, but honestly we are very appreciative of your and the team's efforts and commitments to the game. We have been playing this game since we were kids and some of us are now working fathers, with long hours and high pressured jobs (as im sure with everyone else playing the game); we would not be still coming back to this if we dont love the game and yes, although we did some stupid things when we were younger that we were not proud of (as all kids do), but we have made sure to fix these things along the way; so im not sure if all this unresolved animosity toward us is justified or if it is something we can work together to fix.

Looking forward to your response.

You can get medals from warlord duels, win or lose, and by killing bosses at 50 (switch your blood type currency).

Also, yes running scripts is accepted, that does not mean that the game should not put things into place to limit the competitive impact of heavy scripting.

if youre really concerned about whatr other players have disdain about, youre barking up the wrong tree here though. I never heard anyone giving much a fuck about scripted medals. It could be solved by just you lose 1/3 of medals when you die or something. What I hear players care about is when players excessively hoard rares, e.g. having two sets of tenor on two separate characters. That ones most peoples top pet peeve I imagine. That and kicking someones ass with a bug and saccing all their gear to be a jerk.

Icarium> you can take tasks from the Juggernaut once at level 25. It shouldn't be hard to kill 6 level 20+ mobs with a specific weapon or hand to hand in the time limit provided if you're at level 25 and seeking to join a cabal. You might have to keep around a bunch of spare weapons but it's not hard to gain them that way. Four of those tasks completed = one scarecrow (when completed at level 25).

There is also the honor system. Everybody can disburse from a weekly amount of medals for honorable playing. That could be done for stuff like helping with combat questions on newbie chat or whatever reasons, basically just being a team player. It doesn't seem to get used a whole lot but its been a part of the game for 3 years now.

Yeah that's a good point about the honor system. I once honored somebody new for reporting a bug in newbie chat... Although that action wasn't entirely an IC decision, it felt like the right thing to do.

I'm pretty sure Venom took over Krystal's account with all the "we" this and "we" that.

I actually think Krystal's request for more guidance on acceptable behavior is a decent idea? A help file on what it means to be a "good faith" player could be helpful. I'm sure the emissaries could bang out a set of guidelines with examples for IMM approval.

I know how I behave and where I draw the lines on this stuff. I'll get fancy with scripts but won't fully automate moving and fighting in rounds. I'll find interesting, unexpected mechanics and if it feels too good to be true then I'll immediately report it. If it is a small advantage or something that could be justifiably intended then I'll use it but make sure to make it public via log or Mystique article so people can weigh in and have a fair shake to use it too. I'll always watch out for whether I'm causing game crashes. If I'm holding BIS stuff I'll quit out if I'm too busy or don't want to deal with a dangerous, long fight but I'll always let somebody strong swing at me even if I flee so they get a chase chance at least once or twice a month. Stuff like that.

But just cause that's my code doesn't make it official.

We have our repeatable relic tasks available from Ming in Timaran now.

This task assigns you 3 rooms to locate ("X" marks the spot) and then a boss. It doesn't draw bosses that are higher level than you, so it won't be sending you to Xanthak or Darkenbeast or anything. Underworld and Redhorne are also ignored for the task. The reward per run is enough to gamble a smuggler piece. YMMV based on class/race.

I have a comment about what Krystal said about the time being worthwhile now, and honestly it's something I'm guilty of as well. A couple months ago, one of the Imms, I think Dav but don't quote me on this, said that playing by yourself and not interacting with others to group, roleplay, or senselessly murder each other doesn't contribute to the game. This is a multiplayer game and community.

The argument isn't that you as a person/player don't have value, it's that by not playing with others that 20% of all player playtime doesn't amount to anything because this is a multiplayer game.

And yes for some reason we all get enjoyment out of sitting in the guildhall and mastering "˜create food' while half paying attention to whatever is on the tv, but it doesn't add to the game.

Again, I do this too, so I hope you don't feel like I'm judging you, just explaining the counterpoint.

I accidentally posted this on the 2024 wishlist, so I'll tack it here. My wish is that if you and your groupmates are all on the same quests, no matter who completes the step, everyone gets credit. Notably, you shouldn't have to each have a killing blow on goblins in goblin village at the least. Same thing if you're unlocking shackles, etc.

Also, I'd also like to see your starter voucher be useable in any of the mercenary bars. It's not much, but it'd be nice if you could grab a merc from drkshyre, valour or timeran instead of just the halfling/human mercs. Needed? not really, it's just a flavor thing. :)

Last idea I just thought of, add a non noble pet store to Valour, or somewhere nearby. It's the only starter city with no pet options available. Again, not needed, just a nice qol thing. :)

Cheers!

For instance, the newbie quests each of you have to kill them all individually and wait for them to respawn. That would be a huge qualify of life change if you got credit for dealing damage to them and them dying in front of you.

Allow werebeast druids to pick and change which animal form they shift. Since they get mastered wild shape, that could be a nice racial ability.

Another wishlist item. I'd love for there to be an announcement whenever a character purchases a prestige portrait. Or some way to showcase those portraits on the main website. Maybe a 'portrait of the day' or 'soandso has been recognized ', something like that. Just something to showcase something that otherwise wouldn't be seen until the graveyard.

Not sure if this qualifies as a wishlist or just a failure to understand something being new here, but why can we have avian necromancers but not quasit? I'd be more interested in playing a quasit, personally.

Another thing that might be worth discussing, I came from a mud that had an announcement whenever there was a PK. kinda like "Ventana has been killed by Vaen" and everybody knew. It was made even more fun when a minute or two later, "Vaen was killed by Ailred." And you knew you were missing out on some good fighting. Or just that there was retribution. Would there be any interest here for something like that?
