Help me choose a warlord

At the risk of outing a future character, I want some thought and options. I've really enjoyed magic classes, but after some fun battles in the arena, I'm hooked and really want to build a good warlord character. This would also give me an opportunity to learn weapon advantages and styles. So... help me pick out a combo, what would you choose?

My thoughts are:
Warrior or berseker? I don't have much an interest in monk, unless you guys all say that it's dumb to choose otherwise.

Minotaur warrior or berserker sounds cool
Fire berserker sounds like a beast, especially with a racial legacy that helps against ice weapons.
Stone berseker

I'm interested in a large race and enjoy either evil or neutral. RP wise I think it would be cool to be able to worship davairus, the blood god of the warlords, but that eliminates Minotaur as a choice. And overall, I'd rather have a rad fighting combo over religion.

Im stuck on indecision and a lack of intimidate knowledge of the fighting classes. I've scanned the list of anctive and warlords and it didn't help me decide. Any thoughts?

Alternately, maybe a high dex character would be more fun? Drow?

I'm so indecisive.

Berserker will guarantee you win a duel somehow, warrior wont.

If winning is all you want, play a storm or stone giant berserker. Fix duel in the arena market square (1 room battleground). Start fight mania rage roar bodyslam. Your record will be off the roof. Refuse duels anywhere else.

If your goal is to learn, play a warrior (preferrably giant). Currently high str warriors are still better than high dex warriors in my opinion.

You guys convinced me. While guaranteeing a win sounds refreshing and confidence boosting, I'd rather learn the strategy. Warrior it is! Thanks for the help!

You can cheat a bit and roll a character, put them in STRIFE and learn, then roll the same race/class combo and apply for warlord if you care about keeping a good record. No one will ever know both characters are you and you can pretend you knew what you were doing the whole time.

Alternatively you can just play, learn, and have fun with it. Kicking ass and taking names will come to you eventually.

Well, that brings up a question, what's the benefit of one over the other?

I see more warlords than strife so I assume there's a good reason, especially with the crux of nomagic.

After playing a little bit of both, the berserker is definitely more fun (at least at the lower ranks).

Unless something changed, I don't think you need to nomagic for strife, in fact, you can be a mage and get stance lmao. But warlords do get the nomagic version of detect invis+ skill though.

tenacity alone is weaker than sanc
cognize + tenacity = sanc

just play monk, those are busted

Gnome ranger. Was a blast for me. Monks are fun too, but a recent bug fix turned them off for me.

I've dueled a couple of monks by now and gone into winter with them. I'm blown away by how strong they are. Definitely something I'll consider for my next roll.

Gnome ranger has never even occurred to me! That sounds fun!
