Silent pk by lvl 50 fire giant pyrothos while training giant anatomy dead in 3 hits. He takes slippers, gloves from master torturer and ancient banner of illisidar. Two other level 50's on, but nope lets trash pk the guy 8 levels below you and take their good shit. Back to dota 2.

That is so sad. I don't understand someone even wanting to kill someone 8 levels below, let alone taking their stuff. Just sad. One less person to enjoy the game with.

Just seems weird to take stuff you dont need. I've railed about silent pks forever and a day. I feel your pain there. Hope to see you again.

Once again, looting pushes someone else away. Dying is one thing - the silent PK thing is really annoying but I haven't seen anyone quit AR because of it. The taking of equipment, on the other hand, that seems to be the final straw.
Sorry to see you go. We had some characters interact and I was looking forward to more.

As an evil, there's no reason to give away a potential tactical advantage by saying "hi" before engaging. Get over the silent pk's and start typing where pk and who pk waaay more often.
As for pyrothos, i'd love to fight him or any of his giants... but he always instantly quits. Let's kill rank 42's and avoid the big dogs...predictable.

I’m still new here, but I always assumed by “silent PK” they mean a kill and then walk away? Doesn’t seem a big deal to me (though I usually like to chat afterwards). I’m with you, though, the mud I came from (back when it had people in it) was all PK, There was no RP so silent PK was the norm. Kill as hard and fast as you can and then laugh about it later. There was no looting, though. Maybe every once in a while for a special a-hole, but culturally it wasn’t a thing. And I don’t remember anyone complaining about a toxic player base unless they never learned to fight and just died all the time. That’s probably why I’m so loud about looting coming here. If we have 15 people playing regularly, we can’t really afford to lose one, especially for something as simple as gear. If you need a thing, take a thing. But any more than that causes people to leave. In 5 months, I’ve seen 3 people say they’re done with this place. Each time it was equipment based.

Silent PK = PK (or a PKing attempt) without prior interaction or attempts at interaction taking place. Barring some noteworthy exceptions, this is at least frowned upon if not actually taboo or a faux pas for good-aligned characters to my knowledge.
I don't want to dwell on this so much as make a point that I hope to see better interactions in the future, but there was a squire who PKed one of my characters at a scarecrow after using a crusade without attempting to talk to me first, and I had no chance to react before they rushed in and killed me. Even though they took nothing *personally*, the ties that bind affect from the crusade teleported one of my items off to Winter, and that didn't feel fair (let alone like brave, virtuous, or respectful behavior from the squire themselves).

We have already covered this kind of ground quite a few times recently. Its a high-level player prioritizing ego strokes (ganks and looting eq) over the longer-term activity level of the game. For silent pk, its just the meta, lack of interaction provide a massive tactical advantage. I don't think we need to debate at all about that one. Its the looting is the real killer here. Thats what's made the difference here between setback and delete.
It makes the game feel like a bad investment when you spend 1-2 hours getting these items for someone to just kill you in 3 hits and loot it. That math simply doesn't work for adults with jobs. And also if the killer doesnt need it, then its not being done for competitive reasons, its just griefing. We have had several threads recently about changes to looting that met fierce resistance from vets to change anything at all. However, here we are again, looking at another delete over looting.

What could a level 42 possibly have that deserves a delete over looting. Even more so a monk that cannot wear forged items = no ore farming. Please enlighten me. It has been a long time since I've seen krite level gear at 42.

If you get imprisoned by a knight, it's full loot. You can't even run back to your corpse. You expect the knight to leave your eq inside your corpse for it to reappear at the temple pit 15 mins later? The knight is breaking RP doing that.
So if you're going to delete over people taking opal rings from your corpse, i think it's a good delete. Go play a herald or a good aligned.

Didnt you read the OP where he specifically listed looted items? Its not opal rings. I dont mean to throw shade here Merlandox, but not everybody has several OOC friends regularly playing AR to locate eq, donate gear and help them to clear dungeons. Literally, maybe you should go play a herald, and not be constantly OOC its a lot harder than the way you play this game

It looks like the sum of all parts with this one..
From what im gathering here anyways.. Pyrothos chose not to fight the other level.50's that were on(has a rep for logging out when threats log on) and instead goes for the lowest hanging fruit possible, a level 42 monk(an advantageous match up for a giant warrior even at the same level) who is training and almost dead. Then takes items he has no use for.
I feel like its to see why the player is frustrated.

Those 3 said items are easily obtainable for a level 50 monk. If I were to delete for people looting that 3 items from my characters, i'll have deleted all my characters 10 times. What's the big deal? It's not end game level items. The Heralds are decked to the teeth. If it's that hard, how's every level 50 i see so decked?
Evil monks have the EASIEST by far to get competitive end game stats. I can get a very decent competitive gear in like 2 hours compared to other classes grinding our ass off on ore to forge and now relics for gambling.
Anyway dav, we all know who plays this and you've been very protective over that said player. That's my opinion and you'll disagree but whatever. Why didn't you come when my invoker was level 30 in worn steel getting two rounded by an unholy strength DK with ranks on me, decked to the teeth. I'll just get my revenge when the time comes.

"whats the big deal" - OK since you asked. I will answer. Again.
You guys generate a bunch of loot drama all the time. That's not really my doing, I respond to these threads but you are the ones pk'ing each other and doing the looting on each other. That looting can be classified into two kinds - looting what you need, and everything else.
If you are looting things you need, its competitive, even if it really stings (that'd be the forged gear and crap like tha). Obviously I can do something about that part. I can make the gear a little easier to get to take the sting off, give you non-lootable currencies like relics that can be used to gear which I already have done, and I could also temporarily gaslight you guys that this is the "high stakes" "thrilling" gameplay or as tayyah called it, AR's "sparkle". Call it the big leagues if you want - say that AR isnt hello kitty ilsand adventure for the 100th time if you want. Its a bit pointless to do that because by and large nobody is griping too hard about competitive looting . if you are looting things that you need, then "whats the big deal" is a reasonable response to someone complaining about looting.
Where the trouble starts from is simply the destructive kind of "full loot". Its different when just ransacking everything. One of the things we noticed with vyvax's vindictive pk'ing was he was sending sac 1. at 50 ore stacks not even looking at it. Essentially that is deleting the things that were motivating the guy to play in the first place. Its griefing, then. So that's whats drained the guys motivation to keep playing to zero. Thats why you see a delete and thats why you have seen many other deletes and why you will keep seeing deletes. This has happened 100's of times and we have never done anything significant about it. In fact I am sure if you talk to Pyrothos, his explanation is only going to be "he would have done it to me if he had the chance". You guys have to at some point acknowledge that there is a vicious cycle there and it makes you cynical towards one another. AR is the kind of game where you have to be aware everybody has the ability to full loot your stuff and will do it for very little reason.

I think I am going to chime in on this one. The game is coded to allow this max range of 8 to pk. The game is coded to allow for looting, of anything. The character is an evil chaotic giant. I don't see anything wrong at all that an evil chaotic character did what the game is coded for it to do. This... Is what makes Abandoned Realms what it is! Honestly. This threat of losing your best shit, is why we get the shakes still when things are going sideways in a fight. If you take that away the game would actually lose its sparkle. I think most people can't handle this loss, its a rough game... It takes a certain type of person to deal with it. Some deal with it in different ways, but the ones who stick around still deal with the same things. Recently dav asked me why I even play the game, This should have been my answer. That sparkle is why I play the game.
