I used to dirt Darkoth in Mahn-Tor and steal his axe. He no longer uses an axe.
Also dangerous dagger got harder to steal like this, some updates feel personal.

I've been collecting sets and storing their attributes. I plan on publishing this on invokation when it's complete -- kind of like runes list.
Right now, I've finished Chromatic Metals, Treant Thews, Champion's Glory, Midnight Vigil, Visage of Pain, and Malicious Beast.
I've been trying to get the set affects at level 50, since it changes all the way through. If anyone wants to help get this information published faster, here are some other sets that are missing.
Other sets: Colors of Wizardry, Arcane Gemstones, Glittering Diamonds, Gimp, Shape of the Wraith, Titanium Tremors, Titanic Champion, Golden Guardian, Fiery Fangs, Platinum Might
I'll post the spoilers I've got.

Some young adventure should try every nexus combo while it is still free for the young.
For example, the nexus to dragon tower across the void now takes you closer to Legion cabal.

on the malicious beast set... are the bronze dragonscale anti-evil
because the serpent skin belt is evil only.... though I thought it used to be anti-good is all... tried to get it with a neutral and it was a no go

AR is designed around the idea that a player can become so badass it takes 3 competent players to take them out. It's always been like that, and for very good reason. Unlike in an MMORPG, the things that characters in AR do actually matter. It's possible to become a renowned priest, a popular journalist, or a hardened killer. You don't just blend into the crowd here.
Every character matters because every character could suddenly become the next VIP.
When multiple players like that get to that high a level in a PK capacity, they don't usually fight each other seriously. They start making a web of influence and exploiting weaker players to cement their power, and tend to ignore other badasses. There have only been a few players in the history of AR who were so badass they would blindly engage in "tiger vs dragon" style battles where they have nothing to gain.
So, yeah. You're supposed to be unable to 1v1 certain people sometimes, if you've let them get out of control. This might be somewhat less obvious now that we don't have items like the garb of an assassin perma-hasting fire giants or vorpal swords that have a percentage chance to instantly kill anyone they damage with every single hit. But it's still fundamentally the way the game is designed.

Makes me so sad people post all of the parts/benefits of each set publicly. Takes away all the fun of figuring it out on your own.

I would like to see some sort of Codex-based solution for documenting what sets do. We already show sets' components in there anyways.

I learned the sets by typing a part of set name into search box in codex. Then it lists all the matching components.
(That was before I figured out that you can use "lore" in-game to get the info about pieces needed lol ^^)

To Kedaleam's post about figure it out for yourself, but then after you do all the work to discover what a set does, there's no bigger bummer than completing a set for a race/class combo and finding that the set does jack shit for your combo but would be great for your storm giant healer.

Con -1, Str -4, Mana -20, Int -2, male -12

That one is problematic.
Green dragon scale might as well be unique, I have seen that available about twice in 5 years and that banner is usually only given for a great description.
Not a fan of immortal required items, mostly conservative, how about quests to earn immortal favor as well?

I like having the reference, but this one is a reminder I got in trouble like 10 years ago. I could go back and edit, but that seems dishonest.

Is there any way to pin this thread and rename it from 'remember the rules' to 'SET ITEM LIST' or something like that? New players would never, ever stumble into here and there aren't set item bonuses listed in the codex so at this point I think this is just a vet advantage thing that should be more openly shard with new players.

Red fox is neutral only. Get in there you beautiful people of balance.
Hopefully the key peace will be updated to only a being part of the set and anyone can wear it. The items has no other in game effect but to deny good and evil.
Can I get an alhoon yet, still feels like a lot of gatekeeping in AR. It would be the only update no one should complain about (a rolling roster of incompetence from the necromancers guild) .

The new Red Fox is neutral only... If you can't do away with the earring, which you can (at least for now). Devote soul and the religious items both allow that item to be ignored entirely.

Hmm, well I had a good-aligned character who gathered the set without the earring and I was able to get the set bonuses with the soul devotion... It's possible that it was changed since then, of course.
Based on the bonuses Ivindel had shown, maybe the set could be combined with the tactical butter knife (possibly with engraved save vs spell items) for a halfling thief as a backup for spell saves? 20 save versus mental is equivalent to more than one item specifically added for that purpose (basically 1.5x if we use the ring of closed minds as our base example).

Vulpine Guile also adds chance to dodge, much like those daggers enhancing dual parry (as I understand it). If your class doesn't naturally have dodge, now you have a slight chance to dodge in addition to other defenses. If your class does have dodge, now you have a slightly improved dodge.
Grayden is correct that you cannot replace a signature item in a set with soul devotion or the religion floater. E.g. you must now wear the rainbow staff light to complete Colours of Wizardry.

So a hidden stat with only an out of game way to know that? What other items, if any, have stats not shown by lore/identify? Is this something people were aware of? Is there an In game reason to hide those stats?

You could learn it in game by wearing the set on a class without dodge.
Some other sets with an unlisted "stat" I know about is Legacy of Gonturan which gives you fencing. But that's pretty obvious once you complete the set.
Torments of Hell makes you fly (which you can't turn off) and turns your attack into unholy wrath.
River of Refuge gives you the slow buff (calling it buff because the intent is increased mana regen) if you stand still for a little bit. I'm sure there are others I don't know about.

Thank you, great stuff. But when you put on the set and identify it or lore you don't see the hidden stats? So no real way to theorycraft without the whole set. No necessarily bad, I just thought lore/identify showed all stats. Are there regular items they have hidden stats? I build around the codex and self identify. Perhaps for people who don't know there are even hidden stats on items, and for transparency for new players so they don't feel the learning curve any more than is already present, we don't hide stats of any kind (minus cabal powers)?

Lore/identify doesn't tell you any "special affects" which a set grants. The Wings set is permaflight, Malicious Beast grants infravision, and Patchwork Horror casts lightning bolt (and thunder storm upon death), just to name the ones I recall offhand. Treant Thews used to give a vulnerability to fire iirc.
Edit: oh yeah, and Titanic Champion grants a +1 bonus to size, but that is shown explicitly in the affects once you gain the set. It's not at all obvious until you gain the items that it's great for a storm giant healer.

Boots of discord and thread of life come to mind with hidden functionality.
Boots aid healing the longer you sleep and threads can resurrect, but never got threads to work, I imagine you could bring a pet back.
Edit and toad stone if it still turns you into a toad.

It is unfortunate to think that there are items that are out there that there are no real ways to see if they are good or bad. An item may appear to be trash but has some hidden thing that only a limited amount of people can see. Diminishes the value of the codex a little bit as well.
I've seen dual parry daggers/swords that show on identify/lore. Would it be possible to not silo information and let all stats on items be shown?
Not trying to start world war 3 here, just clarity. I've had that thread before, had no idea it could res you.

Affects health by 30.
Affects wisdom by 1.
Affects save vs spell by 5.

From what I understood about the threads of life, they simply allowed you to use the revive command (whatever that does). I wasn't aware they effectively gave you another life.
Another trap which I think most of our experienced players know about: the herb (potion?) of invincibility from Farmer Griff's quest sounds great if you're not aware that it instantly kills you upon consumption, which turns you into a ghost (thus making you invincible for the time being).
Anyway we're veering off-topic here.

just get me a to do list and i can chug through it. i dont really know how to put what sets do into an ID offhand, so feel free to pitch some ideas. also we'll have to come up with a way to invalidate identifies in the codex that are in need of updated id but are not showing that they changed.

I think these are two separate (but similar) issues:
1. Individual items with hidden perks (these perks could show up under ID or Lore).
2. Completed sets with hidden perks (these perks could be added to the set bonus listed under affects but would not show up under the ID or Lore of an individual item from that set).
I get that there's always been the sentiment to preserve mystique of the game (and yes, it's awesome when you uncover a well kept secret) but to Stiehl's point that's putting newbies at an even greater disadvantage. To combat that could we take the opposite approach with sets and actually list them for all the world to see? This would certainly motivate me to roll a race/class combo to specifically pursue a set that would make me feel badass. I've always been a huge fan of Diablo 2's Arreat Summit site that provides these details: https://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/sets/sets7.shtml#talrashas
I'm not aware of the last issue you brought up with outdated IDs not showing up.

This, exactly, Mogu.
To Dav's request, I think that has to be an onus on the players who know...and more importantly, are willing to share what they know. Try Hards arent going to let you know that some weird item has some hidden stat that greatly benefits them.
Step 1: add a flag to "hidden stat" items
Step 2: add a method to track and report on the flag
Step 3: make all changes transparent through the monthly updates
Step 4: require creation/addition of hidden stats to be vetted by senior Imm's
Would be a start.

The issue with outdated id not showing up is because the ID becoming outdated depends on the item actually changing, not on its ID formatting changing. if today I changed the formatting of ID of vulpine guile somehow to say "Set bonus: enhances dodge" that does change the ID but does not actually change any of the items in the set. we only md5 the ID when it is inserted, and that md5 is then tracked on prototype items, and we dont insert a new ID until the md5 changes on the prototype. So the only way to fix is to either force change the md5 in the codex or on the items. I believe this was a recent issue with psi enhance gear, and then also the exotic weapons, maybe? I dont remember. We might've already fixed them, in all honesty.

In the beginning the world was a mystery and rare items rare to see. You had had no idea what was good or that the mob you normally killed could have a rare item.
Getting ganked you would be like, look at his fancy armor, that guy is cheating. Now we don't think twice about coveted armor from Mahn-Tor.
Then came invokation net, then the codex, now entitlement.
Joking aside some mystery is good and I got a lot of crap for sharing set info in the beginning. As game is now mostly focused on pvp the last 10 years we have little mystery left.
Personally I love the codex but there is still fun in discovery. When you equip a bag of leperous pus, you catch the plague. That's like instant karma as disease is only effective against avian (more or less).
The game really needs tiers of play, newbs then people who can get more kills then death's, then elites.

Bro, there are rarely enough people on to fill a 3 man group at my play times. The tiers would each have 3 people in them.

Grayden brings up some great points. Part of the allure of this game is that there's so much to explore and things to try out. Stiehl is right also because we're all adults and we have to make the most of our time, that means making an informed choice about how we spend our gaming time. This is unsurprising, pretty much every game out there has been data mined and theory crafters have put together best in slot lists and the "optimal way" to play the game. Min maxing is fun for some and not for others...
As far as a tiered system... I don't know how that would work or even if its feasible. In some ways we sort of have that with caballed characters.
Steering us back on topic... Sets that you can combine with other sets. Colors of wizardry and raiment's of asylum. Definitely worth checking out.

so there is a set that will grant you slow if you stop moving?!?!?! Mind blown. This kind of thing is a game changer, and at the same time refreshes my wants to look/explore, it also saddens me that some newbie somewhere might have kept playing instead of quitting, if they knew of that possibility. But seriously, I gotta go try and assemble this thing!

Not at lvl 50 yet, but it looks to be a basic set for evil monks

Black mirror looks like a miserable set to aquire, but I am curious if the floating piece that can only be worn by followers of Dogran is a signature item.
The ethereal helmet is one of the pieces, along with Black armor from the faction of magic. It is a difficult list of items.

Forgot to copy the armor, but it's easy enough to find. Also, this set adds invisibility (until you attack something) and perma-sneak.

A couple to note for future research (And I don't see listed here):
Wings of Anvangulen
'Angelic', the Winged Stiletto
feathered leggings
a pair of winged sandals
a winged helmet
and
Perseverance
a collar of continuance
a Golden Oak signet ring
leggings of the faithful heart
boots of unwavering belief
a girdle of grit
gloves of the resolute heart
a veil of aspirations
drapes of the determined heart
a golden robe

The first one permanently grants flight but I don't recall what it does. Keep the following in mind:
1. Angelic is unique, if mythical
2. Unless you know the trick to killing Gasparo safely, getting the feathered leggings off of him is difficult (in the past, he could be summoned but I don't know io that's the case any more);
3. You need feathered earrings (I don't know if they ones from the Ogra Shaman or the ranger in Drkshtyre Wood are the ones, or if both can count) to complete the set.
I can get the second set up here shortly.

Perseverance (level 50 bonus):
Also, the holy lantern (level 20 gambled light source) from Liberty is an item in the set.
It is worth noting that the golden robe is an orderly item and I believe also a signature item in the set.
